- Mick Schumacher is still confident of eventually stepping up to Formula 1 despite an underwhelming first year in F2.
- The son of seven-time champion Michael has shown flashes of his potential, including a wonderful drive to fourth in Austria having started 18th.
But consistent results have been hard to come by as he sits 14th in the championship, and he has vowed to bounce back stronger.
“No star has fallen from the sky,” he told Germany’s DPA news agency.
“Of course it has not been easy and we’ve had a bit of bad luck lately, but you learn the most from harder times.
“I think we’re on the right track. We have shown that we have the speed and the potential to be at the front.”
Schumacher is not racing this weekend at Hockenheim with F2 not part of the schedule, but will instead be driving Michael’s 2004 Ferrari in a demo around the German circuit.
Looking forward, however, Mick does still believe in his ambitions of following in his father’s footsteps into F1.
“Everyone has to go through hard times but I’m taking one step at a time,” he stated.
“I feel more and more comfortable in this environment and hopefully it will soon be time for me to move up to Formula 1.
“When this happens is difficult to answer as you also have to be lucky enough to get a vacant seat, so I’ll keep going and keep my fingers crossed.”
