Smiling ERC hero Kajeto victorious in Poland

FIA European Rally Championship sensation Kajetan Kajetanowicz won the prestigious Rally Barbórka in his native Poland last weekend – and said afterwards that he smiled all day long.

Co-driven by fellow Pole Jarek Baran in a LOTOS Rally Team Ford Fiesta R5, Kajetanowicz set the pace on five out of six special stages and took victory by almost 16 seconds, which is the biggest winning margin on the popular event in the last five years.

And the excitement didn’t end there when Kajetanowicz and Baran took part in the famous Kryterium Asow (Competition of Aces) on Karowa Street in Warsaw on Saturday night. Kajetanowicz, who placed fourth in this year’s ERC standings and also won the ERC Gravel Master award following several impressive displays, opted to tackle the slippery cobblestone street stage on slick tyres. Despite a clean run, Kajetanowicz settled for the second fastest time, 0.38s behind the winner Tomasz Kuchar.

“Today I was smiling for the whole day,” said Kajetanowicz. “Each rally is difficult in a different way. In Barbórka you have to be incredibly focused and precise, because even smallest mistake on its short route can be very expensive. Even though our European adventure with LOTOS Rally Team was so exciting and successful, it is nice to come back to Poland and our local fans.”

Baran added: “It was a successful day at the end of the season. As usual the whole LOTOS Rally Team did an excellent job and Kajetan drove like a virtuoso.”
