Leading Kenya National Rally Championship driver, Baldev Chager, won the first round of Aberdare Hill Climb Competition held at the weekend. Chager set the fastest stage times in the two-day competition to emerge winner in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10 car.
The Rift Valley Motor Sports Club round of the series, held at Aberdare Hills Golf Resort, attracted nearly 45 competitors from different sections of the motor sports events in Kenya.
Machines varying from ordinary rally cars to buggies and motorcycles driven by some of the most renowned competitors in the local rally scene were in action at the event which started on Saturday and ended on Sunday.
Karan Patel, who recently accomplished a rare feat of driving in the World Rally Championship series, finished second overall in Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 10. The youngster won the opening day’s heats before losing to Chager on the final day.
“Chager found extra pace on day two to beat me. However we set equal fastest time in one heat. It was a great event. I really enjoyed it. Now is to do one more small rally in readiness for the Guru Nanak Rally next month,” Patel told Nation Sport.
