The Inex Legends are back in Gauteng and at Zwartkops for the first time in 2018 on Saturday 29 September, as part of the Historic Tour round at the popular Pretoria West venue. The usual suspects are raring to go and with class championship matters now at a delicate stage, there will be fireworks in all three heats on the day.
Masters class leader Justin Robertson and defending Inex Legends champion Richard Upton have fought out some magnificent races and finishes this year, and with Jason Loosemore back in the fray after missing last month’s trip to Dezzi Raceway, track limits at the Big Z will not contain the trio and as they battle it out for supremacy. Siblings Gerhard and Charl Roux have also been mighty in their contribution to this year’s championship and outright victory is well within their reach. Richard van Heerde lies second in the Masters title chase, and is another veteran in the ranks who can upstage everybody when he gets the bit between the teeth. Fellow KZN stalwart Ian Upton is not just along for the ride and with Johann van der Venter in tow they have often given the younger guys a run for their money. Steven Levin leads the Pro class and with team mates and Sean and Giles Moore and Chris Hoy will add much to a packed grid. The two youngsters in the field, Young Lion Jagger Robertson and Semi-pro Dane van Heerde want nothing more than to upstage the bigger names as they have done more than once this season. Dane in fact has secured funds to race at this year’s Legends World Finals in Las Vegas and is brimming with confidence.
The Inex Legends will welcome two new names to the fold at Zwartkops, W.B. van Niekerk who has a wealth of experience in oval racing and super saloons, and Morne du Toit who committed to the series after watching races on television, and promptly tested and commissioned a Legend chassis. Such enthusiasm augurs well for a series that is affordable and the ideal entry point for young competitors seeking to make a name in local motorsport. Long term sponsors LiquiMoly, Big Boss Auto, Rubro Construction, GRS Roofing and Autozone have worked hard to make the series such a success and arguably one of the most competitive locally.”
