Malaysia’s racing trio of Jazeman Jaafar, Weiron Tan and Afiq Ikhwan Yazid will have a chance of ending the Asian Le Mans Series campaign on a high in Sepang this weekend. Racing under the banner of the renowned Jackie Chan DC Racing X JOTA team, the trio have been selected by Sepang International Circuit (SIC) in a bid to have an all-Malaysian line-up in the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours race in France in 2019.
Jazeman, Weiron and Afiq made it a first all-Malaysian triumph when they won the third round of the Asian Le Mans Series in Buriram, Thailand last month.
Afiq said they are in a good position to notch another win this weekend.
“We have a slight advantage as all of us have raced at Sepang before. We are focused on working together as a team,” said Afiq.
“But we don’t want to be too confident as this is an endurance race lasting for four hours. Anything can happen,” said the three-time Lamborghini Super Trofeo champion.
Afiq was named the International Driver of the Year for 2017 at the Sepang International Circuit-Motorsports Association of Malaysia (SIC-MAM) Awards last week.
SIC, TGTR Automotive Association and NoEqual.co have come together to create an initiative titled “Homecoming” to celebrate the spirit of motorsport by gathering all automotive enthusiasts to be part of this memorable event.
