Williams returns home after pneumonia scare

Sir Frank Williams has been released from hospital after suffering from pneumonia contracted during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.The founder of the Williams Formula 1 team has been absent from the paddock after he was taken ill at Monza in September and subsequently transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England.

Deputy team principal Claire Williams has now confirmed her 74-year-old father has returned home and is making a steady recovery from the illness.

Williams revealed during the unveiling of the squad’s 2017 driver line-up that she had stayed with her father during the pneumonia scare.

“I am very pleased and happy to say that he is now back home, and back at the factory with us,” said Claire Williams.

“He contracted pneumonia after Monza and has been in hospital ever since.

“It has been a slow recovery but I’m pleased to say he’s pretty much back to the old Frank we know and love.

“It’s lovely to have him back with the team.”
